Jewel blanket :: finished!!

Hello ladies

Thank you for all the funny comments you left on my last post! I expect to see lots of knitted helmets and crocheted carpets soon!

I am very excited this morning because of this....

My circle in square blanket is finished!!! I have called it my jewel blanket because the circles zing out of the beige background like shining jewels.

Want to see some more?

Note the swishy edging!!!!

It is made from Stylecraft Special DK and has 100 squares. It is a sofa blanket rather than a bed blanket so it isn't huge, but is plenty big enough to snuggle into.

I love love love it!!!!

Enjoy your day! xxx

  1. Oh it's gorgeous! You're so right, the colours really do pop against the beige. And I love the edging. Well done. Enjoy snuggling up on the sofa with it. x

  2. I couldn't make something like that in a million years. I love the colours. There is nothing like a cosy blanky to cheer you up on a less than tropical spring evening - of which we have many.

  3. Tjingeling pling like we say in Swedish (meaning Hi there, kinda!). Isn't that a blanket to be proud of? Wow! What a master piece. I love the fact that you have chosen beige as a joining color. It really does the trick. Curious to see what your next project will be. I am sure you are already on something new. See you next time. Ciao for now.

  4. Dear Andrea,
Forgot to answer your question. Thanks for popping in! :D I still struggle to align my squares but with a some practice I am now getting better. My not so well aligned squares are seldom shown in my pictures... Call me smart! :D

Diary of a Quilter has taught me a lot on my quilt journey (she has the most fantastic tutorials and tips and tricks for how to make a great quilt) and her best advice on this issue is to pay attention to your seam allowance when piecing. It should ALWAYS be a 1/4". That and the importance of cutting perfectly measured squares does the trick really.

Have a nice rest of the day. And see you soon again. Coming over to yours for a peek too now.
    Ciao!

  5. Just fabulous! Love the edging... I want mine finished now, but have decided to do at least 200 squares - now that it is past the perilous cushion size! Wouldn't it be good if the blanket could stay on the washing line all year round... it would be a constant cheery sight!? x

  11. it's just lovely, strangely i've been working on mine this morning, which is also going to be 10 x 10 squares just like yours, i'm just finishing my 9th row & have started thinking about how to edge it & i love the way you've done yours, did you use a pattern or just make it up yourself?

  18. Gorgeous blanket! What a lovely one to get to keep for yourself aswell!! I also just finished my circle granny, just weaving in those pesky ends on the back. I thought of hanging mine on the clothes line as well for pics, but alas its raining.

  19. It's absolutely beautiful Andrea. I'd like to make one similar for my next blanket. I've tried searching for a pattern on line but the link appears broken to the one I keep finding, are you able to share the pattern? I'm STILL doing my 1st blanket, I'm finding it's taking ages to sew in the ends, I crocheted over most of them as I did it but I don't trust just doing that and would hate for my ends to start unravelling. Seeing as you've now a few blankets under your belt what do you think is the best way to finish off the ends? Got to go, 2 yr old insisting I come see his pirate ship, but your blanket is really lovely, lovely!

  43. OK, I've started one now! My centre colours are completely different to yours but I like the idea of using parchment as the background colour. Can I be cheeky and ask how many balls of parchment you needed? Thanks,
    Anne.
