In love

I am in love. Totally head over heels.

I may have mentioned earlier that one of my objectives for this year is to become better acquainted with my sewing machine. Well, I have come across so many stunning quilts in blogland that I decided to attempt one of my own. Of course, this meant having to sit for hours checking out gorgeous fabrics online...oh dear, what a chore!

Well, this is what I have decided on......

And I had to order that cute little Chinese pin cushion which I have lusted after for years but never before had an excuse to buy!

I looked at various patterns for inspiration and wanted something that didn't look too complicated, or too large, and I found this....

It is from the sew4home site and is a quilt for a baby. I don't have a baby and the only baby due is Bertie Bump so it may end up another blanket for him/her.

I love this Freebird fabric by Momo and using a charm pack seems a more simple foray into the whole quilting experience. But I need to finish some other stuff first, so I am putting it away for later.

**************

I also want to thank everyone for the lovely comments on Bertie Blanket. It is fantastic getting such compliments from so many talented and creative women.

And a big thank you to the lovely Maaike of Crejjtion for naming me in her gorgeous blog and saying such kind things about me. Thank you Maaike and these are for you...

 Enjoy your weekend xxx

  1. Hi Andrea, I like your fabrics lovely colors and patterns. I have been thinking about getting back into sewing as well, need to blow the dust off of my machine, maybe even a tune up. Its been sitting in the closet for a while.

  2. This sounds just like a post that I'll be making in a few weeks only that I'm still at the choosing fabric stage. There are so many amazing quilts on some wonderful blogs that I just have to learn to sew. Congratulations on your lovely fabric choices, can't wait to see the finished quilt Xx

  3. Well done for choosing your fabrics on line, I find it hard enough to choose in the 'flesh' or should I have said "in the fibre"?! Good luck!

  4. Hello Andrea, Your fabrics are wonderful :) and the quilt you choose is great and simple...Simple things are always the best!
Me too I have the same resolution for 2011..I have to stop a little bit the crochet and start sewing and every morning I look at my sewing machine and tell her: tomorrow...I promise... :D and this never happens :)
Can't wait to see your finished quilt,
    Kisses,
    Angie

  6. I love the fabrics you've chosen and look forward to seeing the quilt in progress. I've always fancied trying patchwork but I usually end up falling out with my sewing machine if I attempt to use it (it's very old and probably just needs a service to behave better!)

  8. Oh my word, that fabric is to die for! I'm making my first quilt too - I'm enjoying it, but I don't often get a lot of time. Im going to try not to do my "work" orders at weekends, I think.

  11. Oooooh, that will be lovely! I have flirted with the idea of quilting and even bought some fabric, but I still haven't had the time/courage to start it out. Maybe you will inspire me!
ps- Thank you for telling me about iCrochet! LOVE IT!

  12. Hi Andrea, how is the quilt progressing so far?

Haha, the question about pronouncing my name... it is hard for non-dutchies and I don't blame you. When I studied in Canada people recognised the boyname Mika (like the formula 1 driver Mika Hakkinen) in it, and there is supposed to be a diamond/rock kind of stone in England. The double 'a' is a long a like in 'bra'. The 'e' at the end is more like 'uh' instead of 'e'. So no 'maker' kind of thing I guess...
    Have a great week!
    Love, Maaike
