On the go :: something different

Good morning dear ladies!

As promised, I have some crochet to share with you! I have been working on a blanket for my sister-in-law. She chose the colours - sort of earthy shades - and so I set about trying to find a pattern. Well, I tried all sorts of things...

Triangles based on this pattern. It is a lovely pattern but I just wasn't feeling the love with these colours

Then I made some squares but again, it wasn't working for me.....

Then I tried another squiggly ripple....

Nope. Bacon rashers anyone?!

I was getting very frustrated at this point and was about to give up but then I found this pattern and it was love! And the colours were also similar.

This is what I've done so far......

It is very different to the blankets I have made previously and it is strange working with such a limited palette. I'm not used to using these colours either but, you know what, I am enjoying making this. There is enough complexity in the pattern to keep me interested and I think the colours work well here.

I am so happy to have finally resolved this as it was getting me down! A blanket is such a huge undertaking in terms of time and effort and I needed to be happy with what I was doing in order to finish it!

I'll keep you posted on progress.

Thanks for the comments on previous posts. Perhaps my next project will be a vulva blanket!

Enjoy your week xxx

  9. Fascinating - what a great choice of pattern for the colours. You're very kind, being willing to work with colours that you don't normally like, to please someone else! And I'm with you - I wouldn't pick those colours usually either, but in the pattern you've chosen, they look great! How clever :)

  10. Wow, that looks a complicated pattern - looks as though it needs lots of concentrating and counting! Really interesting effect though and definitely much better suited to those colours than the 'bacon rashers'!!! x

  12. Amazig how the colours didn't really 'gel' together in the other patterns you tried, yet in this one they really do compliment each other! Also...no sewing up...double score!

  18. What a great idea to show how the colors look with different patterns and stitches! And the pattern you chose is so perfect and lovely! Good work! I'm not sure I would have taken the time to do that many different things till it was just right. But maybe from now on I will!

  21. Crikey! That's going to be one hell of a fab blanket. Looks ever so clever. Your SIL is a lucky ducky. I really like the bacon rasher one too, though possibly in different colours. Glad you are happy with this one, the effort that goes into making a blanket means you have to enjoy what you produce even if it isn't "you" in colour.

The Link to your triangle pattern doesn't seem to work for me.
