Crafting in the news

An interesting feature in the Guardian newspaper today about the rise in popularity of knitting...and the role of blogland in encouraging people to start crafting. Just thought I'd share it with you....

  2. I read that article online - very interesting.

For me blogging came first and then inspired by it, I've learnt to knit (badly) and crochet :)

I am a friend of Cuckoo's and have finally taken up crochet. Taken me months to fathom the treble!!!
Not making anything, still just practising my stitches and rows.Long way off crocheting a bus cover!

  5. I saw this article too, gotta love that bus, what a great bumper! Interesting that they were suggesting knitting and crochet is becoming less kooky and more mainstream again. Feels a bit like its going full circle, as when I was a child most of the adult women I knew knitted or sewed regularly (less so corchet) although there was definitely a more functional aspect to it and less doing it just for enjoyment - yes, I was the child in homemade school jumpers!

  6. I hadn't knit for over twenty years until I was inspired to pick up my needles again after seeing all the gorgeous socks in blogland. I've recently learned to crochet too.

  7. I've arrived here whilst blog hopping and stayed for a bit looking at your lovely blog. I think I'll stick to knitting smaller items for the moment. Your yogurt pot muffins look good. I must try those out.
Hope your recovery goes well. Don't try to overdo things.

  8. Last year our city was decorated with large knitted scarves around poles and posts. It looked so cool!!
Around the same time I joined a friend for coffee in a smart cafe.
Sitting close by, a group f women knitting.
It was such a blast from the past. I had to go up to them and ask about their group. They said they sometimes meet at the pub!
It's great to see this emergence of a craft we thought may die out.
