Border country

Hello dear ladies! Sorry it's been a while and I've been rubbish at even keeping up with all your lovely posts but this op has really taken it out of me. I returned to work this week (again!) and am amazed how tired I have been. I still get some pain but am generally feeling OK apart from the fatigue. I guess it will take time.

I wanted to share a book with you that I think is wonderful. I had a lot of comments on my Jewel blanket about the edging and this is where I got it from....

This little book is full of fabulous crochet borders all beautifully illustrated. Instructions are written out but also in diagram form.

Some borders are complex and some are very simple but I would say that the only really tricky thing is making sure you have the right number of stitches to begin with. Most patterns have a repeat so in order for them you work out you need the correct number of stitches. There are some that don't have a repeat and the number of stitches is irrelevant.

And the author shows very clearly how to do the corners...

For my border, I used two of the patterns together and that was very easy to do.

The borders can be used for more than just blankets; they would work on garments or anything else that would benefit from a pretty crochet border. Even picture frames!

I love this book and would really recommend it to anyone wanting to make their borders a little bit special.

Enjoy your weekend! xxx

  3. I got it! You told me about it a while back and I now own it. Yes I do!! Love it as night time reading and I'm soon going to be leafing through it to find a nice boyish boarder for a blanket I have done for charity.

Hope your energy levels rise ASAP. Lovely to have you visit me but never feel you must. I'd like my blog to be a place you can visit and not feel you HAVE to comment. Do you know what I mean? I don't want to become Another Thing To DO.

  6. Ooh that does look good, I just got some lovely crochet books for my birthday so now I can top up my wish list with this one :) Hope you have a lovely relaxing weekend and ease yourself back up to full speed gently - it's easy to underestimate the amount of time needed to recuperate.

  7. What a lovely book... I may have to go and have a better look and maybe purchase one myself..! I'm planning on starting a new blanket soon so it would be great to get some ideas from a book like this.

I hope your not in too much pain and are feeling okay.

  8. Fatigue may be your body's way of telling you to take it easy, give in to it for a while and put your feet up. You have an excuse now, get going with that beautiful crochet work.

  9. I would love to have this book but likely won't find it here. I never used to border any of my projects until a friend said that it wasn't complete without a border. She taught me a simple shell stitch and since then, I just make my own borders up.

I tried out your yogurt pot cakes yesterday ... added vanilla, dried cranberries and coconut. I like such simple recipes with few ingredients. Had them for breakfast today with my coffee. Thanks for sharing!

Wishing you a continued recovery. Best wishes, Tammy

  18. I recently bought a couple of crochet books, and I was very tempted by this book and another book by the same author. I just couldn't manage to buy all of them at once, I shall be purchasing this book next month with a bit of luck! It does look very useful
